A Time to be Born: Barbara (Morris) was born January 7th, 1934 in Harlem, NY to John and Goldie Morris (Patterson).
A Time of Learning: She received her early education in the New York Public School system and graduated from Central Commercial High School. Then went on to receive a Associates Degree in social services from The School of Social Work and on to New York Theological School.
A Time to Labor: She began working at the age of 17? She's worked as a drug counselor in the New York Prison system, while working at Reality House for 25 years.
A time for service: Barbara was a women with a warm smile and a big heart. She invested in her Harlem community, she was stern but fair and always forgiving. As a community activists who insisted on investing in the neighborhood, taught about civil rights and how to protest, whether fighting for a traffic light on 122nd Street & Mt. Morris Park, giving children their first jobs (summer youth employment), sending them away to overnight camps with the Fresh Air Fund, also partnering with Maurice Faucette to start the South Harlem Reds, or teaching others how to stand up for others (especially children).
A time to Love: She married Enoch Burrow (who proceeds her) and in 1980 she married Wilson Skinner (who proceeds her).
A Time to Mourn: She leaves a legacy of memories with her Harlem community and her children Harium Martin-Morris, Nannette Morris, Eric (Pop) Morris (who proceeds her), Nathaniel Morris, Marvin Morris, Rodney Borders, Leighton Morris (who proceeds her), Tanya Bowers, Christina Johnson, Lakera Skinner, Michael Skinner, Alexis Skinner, Daughter in-laws Linda Martin-Morris, Debbie Morris, Victoria Morris (who proceeds her), Nadine Morris along with 15 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren, 2 great great grandchildren, her cousin John Whittaker, Niece Deidra Brown, Nephews Cornell Mobley, Kip Mobley and a host of friends and those that loved her.
