Obituary

Alice Faye Dukes, daughter of the late James Walter Johnson and Mary Elizabeth Johnson, was born March 29th, 1938, in Murfreesboro, North Carolina. She was the youngest of sixteen children. She loved her siblings very much and although many have passed on, she is survived by her three remaining sisters. Immediately upon graduating high school, Alice moved to New York City, New York. While she was in New York, she married and had five beautiful children named, Keith Earl Tyler, Debra Renee Tyler (deceased), Sharon Delores Tyler, Frances Laverne Tyler-Andrews, and Timothy (Tracy) Tyler. When her youngest child began school, she began employment at the New York Telephone Company and remained there until she retired out of her management position. While at The New York Telephone Company, Alice received numerous awards including one for NEVER being late nor absent. While working Alice was approached by a Jehovah Witness and began her own personal Bible study into the religion. She thereafter devoted her life to Jehovah God and symbolized it by water baptism on February 25th, 1973. While spreading the good news, she met Marion Dukes and on October 6th, 1979 they were married and together they raised his daughter, Regina Ann Dukes. As a faithful servant of Jehovah, she traveled throughout the United States as well as The Philippines to spread the good news of Jehovah's Kingdom. When she wasn't traveling abroad, Sister Dukes and her husband did Unassigned Territory throughout the United States. Even after becoming ill, she still had an active share in preaching work through pioneering. In her community, she was best known as Ms. Alice and was loved by many. She enjoyed helping others get to the next phase or chapter in their lives, and people could always count on her to help. After her retirement, she purchased a cart and created a small business selling commerce inside the Wagner Projects. She loved interacting with friends from the congregation and people in general. She loved children and watching them was also something she loved to do. In her quiet time, she loved to play Scrabble or read books. Alice passed away, peacefully at home on Sunday, November 11, 2018. Left to cherish fond memories are: her loving and caring husband of 39 years, Mr. Marion Dukes; her five beautiful children, Keith, Sharon, Frances, Timothy, Regina. seven grandsons, Markel, Brian, Andre, Jason, Shijuan, Donte, and Ansley; three granddaughters, Kristina, Kimberlee, and Rebecca; nineteen great children; one great great grandchild; sisters, Mrs. Frances Terry (The Matriarch), Mrs. Eula Dalton and Mrs. Lois Gaines; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
