Obituary

Let not your heart be troubled: ye believe in God, believe also in me. In my Father's house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also. John 14:1-3

On March 13 2021 Christine Walker Ray departed this life to answer God's calling, at New York Presbyterian Hospital.

Christine was lovingly known by many as "Mama Chris". She was born on September 4th, 1936 in Pee Dee, South Carolina. She was the beloved daughter of Rev. Dr. Earl Walker Sr. and Ethel Wells Walker who preceded her in death.

At an early age, she gave her life to the Lord and was a faithful member of Gospel Hill Baptist Church where her father was the founder. She was a member of The Gospel Chorus, Nursing Ministry, Missionary, Hospitality Ministry,Trustee Board, and the professional group known as The Voices of Psalms and Earline Walker Brown and The Gospelettes of NYC which was started by her sister. Christine continued her spiritual journey under the leadership of Pastor Rev. Henry Mack, Jr.

Christine was educated in the NYC public School system. Christine worked as a designer after she finished her educational trade. She was the seamstress of the family and she worked closely with her friend Bleaker Charlton who preceded her in death.

Christine met and married Lindsay Ray Sr. That union was blessed with two sons, Lindsay Ray Jr and the late Terrence Ray; and her step children, Nakita and Willie. In 1990, Christine embraced her loving and dedicated daughter, Princess.

Christine was the second eldest of six siblings: Ivery, Rev. Earl Jr,, Albert Lee, and Cynthia who all preceded her in death. She leaves to mourn, Benjamin Sr (Linda), and Rev. Earline (DIT Lewis Sr).

She leaves to mourn and cherish fond memories: her children, Lindsay and Princess along with Princess' sisters, Brigette, Bleaker and Nashaya; grand children, Tarae, Amari Jayden and Ronald; daughter-in-law, Mary Ray; god daughter, Crystal Brown Pryor; sister/cousin, Elder Margaret Gurley; her sisters-in-law, Ruthie Walker, Joyce Walker, Linda Walker and Doris Ray;her brothers-in-law, Lewis Brown Sr. and Joseph Ray; and an army of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
