Obituary

Beatrice McCullers was born in Johnston County, North Carolina on August 17, 1925 to David Samuel McCullers and Olivia Elizabeth Sanders McCullers.

She was the youngest girl of seven children. Hattie, Dorothy, Vivian, Christine, Joe Nathan, and, James David (JD). All who have gone to God.

Beatrice attended school in Johnston County, North Carolina. She migrated to Newburg, New York in 1947 and then relocated to New York City where she worked in the garment district as a Seamstress. She then went on, in time, and graduated from The Monroe Business School while taking care of her two children in 1966. She then began to work for the NY State Division of Housing and Community Renewal DHCR in 1968, as a typist, In 1989, she retired as an Office Aid III.

Beatrice was active in the NYCHA Tenant Patrol and was a resident for over 50 years in the same apartment. She always said she loved her apartment so she paid her rent on time.

She loved to go to the Senior Centers and participate in the events. She also went to DC37 events, and made things. Crafts were her hobby.

She lived the rest of her remaining life in her project apartment where she died, on May 9th 2020, peacefully in her bed.

Beatrice leaves behind: a daughter, Joyce McCullers-Walker and son, Earl Howard McCullers; two grandchildren, Akkia McCullers and Nadirah Walker; five great grandchildren, Jahkia Robinson, Justice Griffin, Endiyah Mateo, Gyasi Mateo and Perry Harrison; two nieces, Joann Austin and Roberta Howard; great-nieces; great-nephews; a host of cousins in North Carolina and California; and many friends.

She will be missed by all who loved her and whose lives she touched.
